How to Get Started With A Wholesale Supplier - Wholesale Purchasing Tips from Worldwide Brands

By Chris Malta, CEO and Founder of Worldwide Brands

Wholesale Tip #7

You can't rush success – in an eBay auction or with an eBay Store! eBay Sellers are often in a hurry, especially when it comes to starting an Internet business. They want to list products in auctions or throw up an eBay Store today and be rich tomorrow. Such impatient people typically do not succeed.

A lot of new sellers contact wholesale suppliers and ask for an account in order to purchase direct from the wholesaler and receive better pricing and profit margins when selling on eBay. You may find wholesalers are delayed in responding back to requests for wholesale accounts.

Wholesalers are busy people. They get many requests for accounts, which they process as quickly as they can. It takes time to set up an account because it requires a lot of work from the wholesaler. They must capture your information, process it and validate it. The wholesaler checks your information against their own criteria for granting accounts. They must determine if you and your business are a suitable fit for their brands and products. The wholesale rep must do the paperwork to set up your account. Some suppliers can open new accounts within days, but others may take weeks.

The season of the year may also impact how long it takes a supplier to open an account for you. The Holiday season begins for wholesalers in July. During this busy season, a wholesaler will probably take longer to respond to your applications. Spring and early summer are slow seasons for most wholesalers. At this time your requests may be processed more quickly. In early January, many wholesalers close for a few weeks for stock taking. You may find that it takes longer to get a response during the audit season as well.

Be careful to avoid rushing a supplier into responding to your request too quickly - especially if you want them to respond with a 'Yes'. Be patient and trust that they will process the application as quickly as they can. You can remind them occasionally. However, be nice about it!
